Abstract

This study examined the Unemployment and Migration Implication for National Security A Study of Borno Sate with. The specific objectives are to determine the relationship between unemployment and economic growth in Borno state Nigeria to determine the short-run impact of unemployment on output level in the Borno state citizens of economy. to determine the relationship between rural migration and economic growth in Borno state Nigeria.  in line with the requiremnt of National Security. This study adapted a descriptive survey research design to collect data from general public in Maiduguri Metropolitan area of Borno state Nigeria. The sources of data  were primary and secondary data. Primary sources were obtained from the respondents through the administration of questionnaire and key informant interview, while the secondary sources were obtained from journals, text-books, bulletin and news papers. The population for the study was a projection population of 1,211,204 people (National Population Commission 2023). This comprises of only adults in maiduguri metropolis, ranging from the ages of 18-60 years because they are more knowledgable about the sustainable development goals and its implementation. Stratified random sampling was used in selecting the respondent where the study area were divided in to strata of residential areas since these areas were purposely selected as the primary study area. This study were selected samples through random sampling technique.

The findings of this study shows that problem of unemployment in Nigeria requires a pragmatic approach to minimize it. Increasing the employment rate is not the only way out of this trap but making sure that most vulnerable group of the economy are taken care of, which would then enhance economic growth and development. The consequences of a growing unemployment phenomenon are such implications are glaring in the economy of Nigeria where many negative developments are traceable to the non-availability of jobs for the teaming population of energetic youths. While the government takes the leading role in the task of employment generation by providing the necessary enabling environment for economic activities; it is necessary to note that the battle against unemployment problem in Nigeria is like a war that too important to be left for the generals alone, it cannot be left for the sole effort of the government, all the stakeholders must therefore work together to overcome the hurdles of unemployment.
